The Paris runways ensured this autumn and winter will be an exciting time for fur, especially with fashion-forward trends emerging and taking some classic looks in entirely new directions.

Full Furs

Runways the world over are consistently showing designers’ willingness to explore the possibilities of working contrasting furs together in one silhouette. Yves Saint Laurent displayed exotic mixes utilizing simple palette’s relying solely on black and white while Giambattista Valli worked in black, white and a bold flash of red in a more modernist look.

Long Haired Furs

Another strong trend to emerge is the use of dramatic long-haired furs such as goat and Mongolian lamb, suggesting a throwback to the inspirations of the ‘70s and ‘30s that relied on simple shapes to allow the fur to speak for itself.

Placement Fur

The Paris runways found many designers playing with new and imaginative ways to place fur panels and design details on woven and leather silhouettes. Some designers chose to isolate fur to the back of garments while others used bands of fur for the hemlines of coats or to make more dimensional and textured effects.

Fur Jackets

Everything from patent to mink was swinging with the emerging trend for shorter jackets.  These looks are well suited to develop as silhouettes for simple wraps or the scorching hot baseball jacket, which made its presence known.

Fox Won’t Be Ignored

Fox is showing up in a big way on runways the world over, making it the official tour de force for next fall and winter. The emphasis in Milan was on plush full fox collars worked in natural silver and red fox, or dyed into the season’s palette of winter brights and autumnal darks.

Pale Is In

The upcoming season is definitely showing exciting promise in the arena of color. It seems almost anything is game as the runways of New York and London boasted bright, energetic looks now contrasted with a large number of soft pales in Milan. Ultra-feminine colors like blush pink and winter-inspired hues like jonquil and hyacinth worked into simple tops, capelets and shrug-on cardigan jackets should be a big hit.

Sleeveless

Confirmed in New York and Milan, it appears sleeveless looks are a shoe-in. In Milan, silhouettes were transformed into sleeveless coat and jacket hybrids using opulent furs like sable and (naturally) fox.
